The Council and the European Parliament have reached a provisional agreement to give companies more time to prepare for the new European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).Adoption of the principles is now expected by 30 June 2026, two years after the date initially announced.The agreement changes the legal nature of the text, moving from a Commission decision to a directive, ensuring compliance with the legal basis of the proposal.The Commission will publish eight sectoral reporting standards as soon as they are ready, before the new deadline of 30 June 2026.Next steps: The provisional agreement needs to be approved and formally adopted by both institutions.
